The Meeting
was held at the home of Pam Walmsley on September 11th, 2014
Networking and
viewing of Pam’s gardens began at 4:30 pm
Potluck/Refreshments
and the meeting was called to order at 5:03 pm
Business Meeting
was called at 5:50 pm by President Glen Pace.
Thanks to Pam Walmsley for opening her home and gardens were given and
Pam was also presented her hosta stone as a thank you for hosting our group. Glen Pace welcomed five visitors to our meeting; Cheryl Borkowski, Gayle Haven, Sylvia Hansen, Michelle Chockley, and Julianne
Sekerak. We are happy to announce that
all five became members also.
Approval of
Minutes – There were no corrections to the minutes from the August 2014
meeting. Motion to accept minutes was made
by Becky Hanner and seconded by Steve Balabon.
The membership voted to accept the minutes.
Treasurer’s Report
– Barb Hunter, treasurer reporting August 2014, the club had a beginning
balance of $6151.42. $201 was added and there were no expenses for August,
leaving the club with an ending balance of $6352.42. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report was
made by Mark Hanner and seconded by Carol Leonard. The membership voted to accept the treasury
report.
AHS Presidents
Wall Award – President Glen Pace presented to Ken and Jan Zawisa the AHS
Presidents Wall Award for taking on the responsibility of refreshment committee
coordinators. Ken and Jan Zawisa get to
every meeting early and are the last ones to leave. EMHS appreciates all that they do for our
club.
Name badges –
signup sheet was available. Darlene
Nadane received her badge and we still have badges for Carol Pittard, and Flora
Yearta.
T-Shirts –
EMHS/Hosta Addiction, were available in 2 sizes XXL-XXXL. The shirts are $18.00 each for paid members
and $20.00 for non-members.
Hosta Stones –
featuring Hans Hansen’s H. “Joy Ride” Members prices are $30 & $35
2012 – The club has 3 Iron and 2 Brown stones still
available. 2011 – 1 natural stone is
being held for a member. The club also
has 1 Stone stand available for $20.
2015 Hosta Stone
– will feature Don Rawson’s Hosta “Rhino Hide”.
Don Rawson called Cathy Hodgson and said it was a great honor to have a
stone made after him.
Announcements
– Mark and Becky Hanner’s Fall Art Fest will be held at their home on September
20 & 21. Times will be 9-5 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday. Cheryl Borkowski announced that the Genesee
Master Gardeners fall conference will be held on October 4th 8 – 4 at the Mott Community College
Events Center. The cost of attending is
$65.00 which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. You do not have to be a master gardener to
attend.
Next Meeting –
will be October 09th at Mayfield Twp. Hall in Lapeer. Tony Reznichek, curator of the
U of M Herbarium will be our speaker.
Plant Exchange
– took place and everyone went home with some wonderful plants.
