Note from the President-
Michigan spring is coming,……..sometime.
The older I get the harder it is to deal with Michigan’s winters and it
seems that the winters get longer although that perception is only my dislike
of the cold and snow. The Cyclamen
coum, Helleborus thibetanus, Eranthis, and Galanthus blooms do give promise
that spring is somewhere in the near future.
The Great
Lakes Regional Hosta Society has just finished celebrating Hosta College’s 25th
Anniversary. This year around 300
attendees enjoyed an offering of 80 classes to choose from for 5 hours of
classes, a lunch was provided, then a banquet ended out the evening. The parties at the Hotels after the days
events at the Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua are some of the most fun you
could ever have with friends that you only get to see once a year. It is the place that you get to actually
talk, share a year’s experiences, and catch up on what has gone on with your
friends over the past year. Plan to attend next year’s Hosta College on
March 15th & 16th, 2019.
Our next
meeting will feature Aaron Strouse presenting “The Waterfalls of
Michigan”. Aaron gave a fantastic
presentation on “Michigan’s Native Orchids” to EMHS last year and the group
decided to invite Aaron back for another one of his wonderful
presentations. This is a presentation you will not want to
miss!
The May
meeting will be the “EMHS Members Only” clay project at the Hanner’s Pottery
Studio in Otisville. You must be a
member in good standing with your dues paid to date. Mark and Becky will have a sign-up sheet at
the April meeting so the current paid members can choose the date and time they
want to go play in clay. The dates for
the project will be on May 10th and May 12th. Mark will discuss the event at the April meeting.
We are still
in need of summer meeting places. If
you are willing to open your garden and host a meeting I would greatly
appreciate you letting me know at your earliest convenience. Cathy Clark has tentatively offered to open
her gardens for the June meeting and Dyane Moore is hosting the July
meeting. We still need somebody to host
the August meeting and the September Plant Exchange meeting.
See you at
the April 12th meeting,
